Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara

I had to get a picture of the Juice Beauty Lash Defining Mascara before my grubby fingers faded away the label–this is how you know I’ve been good at practicing piano. Kidding. Now at the 3-month mark, I just have a tiny bit of the logo left, and I’m still getting clump-free definition for my lashes. This one is really good for layering (three layers? Sure), quite good at not smudging (haven’t noticed anything, really), mediocre at holding a curl (will hold for the most part, but can only fight my straight hair DNA so much), and sadly a bit good at leaving those flakes where you’ll want a mirror on hand–a gentle knuckle swipe under the eye, which usually serves me well enough to clear up a smudge, has a couple times left me with a little black shooting star across my cheek. Not the prettiest. Besides this setback, I surprisingly like the medium, fluffy-ish tapered brush. I thought I was a tiny, plastic brush girl (<3 Kjaer Weis’s Mascara <3), but the larger side helps me coat each lash, while the tinier side helps me with more precise application for the corners of my eyes. Also, from the first day I tried this, my sister ruled that this made my lower lashes look awesome. I’ll take that.

Does anyone remember using the Full N’ Soft mascara? I couldn’t believe how soft it made my lashes. This one gives a similar effect, though with organic cocoa seed butter and avocado butter (yum). The defining effects have vegetable glycerin and minerals to thank, and I’m thinking phenethyl alcohol and ethylhexylglycerin serve as the preservatives, both receiving a score of 1 on EWG (for reference, the preservative phenoxyethanol receives a 4). I haven’t been able to contribute any eye irritation to the mascara–since I’m a contact wearer, when things from life get in my eyes, they will be unhappy, and this happens all the time, mascara or not.

As a side note, I bought mine at Dermstore while it was on sale, and even when it is not on sale, it is quite affordable at $19. It is also two times the size and twice as heavy as Kjaer Weis’s mascara. Swear it could eat KW’s mascara if it could. I would repurchase this in a pinch, but the only reason I’m not doing so now is because of the large influx of natural mascaras from really great brands (rms beauty defining mascara…you will be mine soon. And Alima Pure’s. And W3LL People’s. And maybe Ilia’s if I get over my fear of large brushes), but also flakes. But maybe I just need to carry a mirror around more often.

tl;dr A+ for definition, brush, layering, smudging, and soft lashes, but F for flakes. Would repurchase, but not going to immediately because rms beauty, Alima Pure, W3LL People, Ilia, aka tons of uncharted territory that must be explored.

Have you tried this mascara? What are your thoughts? If not, what’s your current favorite mascara?

This wasn't the best mascara for me – I'm too spoilt after years of using Lancome's. But it's still good for casual everyday wear!

For some reason I didn't even know that Juice Beauty had a mascara! I'm having a hard time finding a natural mascara that I like as they all seem to dry out super fast.

    Thanks for the review!

I loved the Maybelline's Full & Soft Mascara so this one is to try! 🙂 Nice B&W shot, love it.

I love that picture of you! Lashes look fab! I had the same experience as you with this mascara and despite minor flaking by the end of a long day, I still gravitate towards this mascara. I found it to be a bit wetter than other formulas, so watery that I found I couldn't pack this in my bag without standing it upright or it'd leak out when I unscrewed the tube. :/ Did you experience that at all?
Also, the Juice Beauty logo is completely faded away on my tube!

Awww, sorry to hear that. I only used conventional drugstore products before going green, so I don't know how Lancome would look on me. Since my lashes are so straight and my monolid covers half of them, conventional vs. green performance has been pretty fair game for me. Glad you still keep it for everyday wear though!

It's pretty new! It might have been released late last year? This one is doing quite well as far as not drying out–I know some people consider it a pretty wet mascara, which it is upon application. Hope you give this one a try! If not, so many new natural mascaras have been coming out–very excited to see how they all are.

High five for similar past mascaras! Don't know how it compares to your Dizao, but it does flake more than what I remember of KW. But I find my lashes get a thicker look with this one. Thanks Asti 🙂

Thank you Kasey! Oh wow, I didn't know it was that watery. I don't usually carry my mascara with me during the day and I haven't had a chance to take this one traveling, but maybe I will have to try storing it upside down to see what will happen.

;D Faded logo means we're getting good use out of it!
