My Mama’s Green Beauty Picks

Mama's Green Beauty Picks

In honor of Mother’s Day, I bring you my mama’s picks from the green beauty world. She was slightly resistant to greening her routine at first since she long developed her own groove, but graciously opened up to my obsession with healthy beauty. What started with me pushing products onto her to try has turned into her purchasing them herself or requesting suggestions from me. I’m a proud mama hen of a mama hen.

La Bella Figura | Découverte Under Eye Repair Serum
It makes my eyes look nice. My eyes look less baggy. Also, the smell is really good and even though it is an oil, it doesn’t feel oily because the skin absorbs it in. I think it definitely tightens up the skin around my eye and makes the skin tone better. I really see a difference.

Laurel Whole Plant Organics | Healing Balm

Remember, my neck, it’s very sensitive; I get allergic reactions. It can get very itchy and red, but this healing balm repairs my skin. I haven’t had [reactions] for a long time. So I love this one. Also sometimes I use the leftover from my neck on my face after I apply the Antioxidant Serum because sometimes my face is sometimes a little itchy, just a very little amount. (Ed. note: she’s repurchased this probably three times by now)
Laurel Whole Plant Organics | Antioxidant Serum
It’s an oil but it doesn’t make skin oily (Ed. note: this is especially important to her because she uses powder foundation, and powder foundation on an oily face looks no bueno). It smells really good. It makes me feel good because it’s made up of plants. (Ed. note: she’s on her first repurchase of this)
It cleanses your face pretty well and removes makeup too. Sometimes, when I wash my face, every other day, I put a little of the scrub in while I’m washing. (Ed. note: when Whole Foods has this on sale, she buys them in bulk)
I like to use it to wash my [makeup off] even though it’s expensive. (*laughs) (Ed. note: I left a sample of this at time, and to my delight, she went out on her own and purchased it. And then used it on her face as a makeup remover to my dismay. Oh well. At least she found a way to enjoy it.)
Josh Rosebrook | Hair Spray Firm Hold
If I tease my hair and spray it, it holds hair in place really well. (Ed. note: my mom is a huge hairspray snob and she uses hairspray all the time to keep hair out of her face and in a neat bun. Before this one, she used the same brand for years and years and years, so this is actually a big deal.)
Usually when you wear sunscreen under makeup, the makeup really does not look very good. Usually sunscreen is very greasy. But this one is not. It wears really nicely under makeup because it’s very smooth and silky. (Ed. note: she buys this one in bulk too.)
Disclaimer: I queried my mom and she graciously provided answers. Only editing was for grammar and editorial notes. This has got to be the cutest Mother's Day post I've read today. Love your mom's picks and the simple explanations! Go mamma! <3

Aw this is such a sweet post! Well done for converting your Mum to green beauty, I've tried with my Mum but she keeps going back to Olay and L'Oreal :O! I shall have to keep trying…

I love a whole family green beauty routine! I tried the Pratima sunscreen thanks to you and have loved it. Like your mom, I'm stocking it for the summer. I about did a spit take upon learning how the Dr. Alkaitis Nourishing Oil was used! HAHA! Fancy indeed though I could never bare to only use it as a makeup remover. I must be one of the few who has not had good results with the LBF Eye Oil, I found that it was just so bleh.

Really nice post miss! I am trying to "green" my mother a bit more……:-)) especially when it comes to skincare. x

You guys are so cute! I miss going to events with my mother. 🙂 I love Laurel WPO line as well. It's funny weird that she has allergic reactions on her neck. I get hives on my neck from stress and boy it's ugly. Healing balm works great!

Your mom's explanations are precious!! I need to green my momma up a bit. Practical + frugal are in her vocab so she tends to use anything that's on hand.

I loved reading about the green beauty products your mom is loving! 🙂 My mom loves stocking up on the brands during sales at Whole Foods too. They're too good to resist! 😉

This is too cute! What great taste your mama has 🙂 I like her straightforward, no-nonsense reviews … she gonna start a blog soon or what?! I think the repurchases / stock-ups are a big testimonial!

Jade have you used the LBF eye oil? I've had my *eye* on that for a while but can't justify taking the plunge just yet. Everytime I read one of these good reviews, I move to buy it but just keep seeing this listed on places like ebay from people who say it wasn't good for them.

Hi Amanda! I used it for a little bit out of curiosity before passing it on. I have heard some negative things about the eye oil as well, such as the oil stinging the eyes, the oil having two many essential oils to be near the eyes, etc. But to each their own–I'm particularly fond of SkinOwl's Eye+, which feels mega refreshing (a joy in the morning for puffy eyes). Also, I think Josh Rosebrook's eye oil, Oculus, has actually lightened up the darkness under my eyes a bit.

Hi Katie!! Thanks so much for commenting and thank you! Much love back <3

  13. May 14, 2015 / 12:08 am

Thank you Kim!! She's a woman who knows her mind 😉 Haha! That would be fun. Given her pickiness, her repurchases are a great testimonial!

  14. May 14, 2015 / 12:09 am

Thank you Kasey!! I love eyeing those sales at Whole Foods…

  15. May 14, 2015 / 12:09 am

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I wonder if DIY and Whole Foods might be up her alley?

  16. May 14, 2015 / 12:11 am

Thank you Stacey!! To be honest, I felt a little silly at first and worried I wouldn't be taken seriously meeting so many green beauties in real life for the first time with my mum, but in the end, I was so happy to show my mom something I was passionate about 🙂

Her neck is really sensitive to her hair and materials like wool which make it itchy. Sorry to hear you get stress hives but glad to hear Healing Balm works great for you too!

  17. May 14, 2015 / 12:11 am

Thank you lovely!! Work in progress I'm sure 😉 xx

  18. May 14, 2015 / 12:13 am

I'm so glad you're liking the Pratima sunscreen!!! I just helped her stock up for her and my sister. I know–I just about had the same reaction ("But mom!!!! That is a NICE oil!!!!!! TOO nice to use as a cleanser!!!"), but at least she makes use of it…somehow…:P

To each their own! I didn't use it long enough to have an opinion, and I passed it along to my mum out of curiosity. I'm glad at least she enjoys it.

  19. May 14, 2015 / 12:14 am

Indeed, how terribly sweet!! I do hope you try them soon 🙂

My mom enjoys sticking to what she knows, but I nudge her with new products every now and then hehe. My mum still uses dirty makeup–that's still a struggle arena. One battle at a time!

  20. May 14, 2015 / 12:14 am

Thank you Amber!! Haha, my mom still sneakily buys some Olay anti-aging cream from Costco and I'm like, "Mum!!!! All these green beauty products are naturally anti-aging!!!!!! Why???"

  21. May 14, 2015 / 12:15 am

Thank you Ruhi!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
