Skin Profile

Not every product works for everyone. Skin types of dry, combo, and oily aside, even “natural” beauty has its irritation risks as some people are more sensitive to certain ingredients than others. Plus, essential oils are super concentrated.

With that in mind, not everything that works for me may work for you! But I hope it does. As far as I have been able to deduce so far, the tune of my skin goes:

Acne-prone?
Sadly yes. This has been my on-and-off nemesis since middle school, but as of late, I only tend to get hormonal acne around my period. In order of commonness for whiteheads: cheeks, chin, upper lip, forehead.

Aside from products my skin doesn’t like, the most common causes appear to be hormones (chin/jaw), stress (jaw/neck), and diet (cheeks).

Dry or combo or oily?
Dry in the winter, especially cheeks. Oilier in summer, but never as far as being able to go without moisturizing. Basically, I am your common combo.

Color and undertone?
I am Chinese, so my undertone is the typical yellow, but compared to most Asians I know, I’m a bit pinker or blotchier (poor circulation?). Also, as of early 2013, I do have a good amount of acne scars on my cheeks, so my face is probably a bit rosier than it actually is. As far as color, fair-light in winter, light-barely medium in summer.

Sensitivities or allergies?
Coconut oil may have been the source of a nasty breakout summer of 2012, but I am most likely at fault for experimenting with not the purest form of coconut oil. Also I didn’t wash it off properly either. Since then, I’ve actually been able to use a lot of makeup products based in coconut oil without issues. As far I know, I am not allergic to anything.

Age?
I am in my 20’s.

My typical foundation colors:

  • rms beauty ‘un’ cover-up concealer and foundation 22
  • Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in Silken
  • Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint 5
  • Kosas Tinted Face Oil 04
